EMDR

Everything you need to know about EMDR and the two ways you can start.

BENEFITS

Why choose intensive or adjunctive EMDR work?

  • TIME: Intensive sessions allows you to foster change quickly, in as little as one or two sessions.

  • FLEXIBILITY: Scheduling that allow you to skip the traditional weekly therapy model.

  • CHANGE: People report feeling relief after EMDR that they could not feel after years of traditional talk therapy

  • NOVELTY: This has a very different feel to it than regular therapy. It will have a structured flow you may enjoy, but is tailored to you.

  • INVESTMENT: You get to put the time and money into healing today, rather than waiting to notice progress after weeks or months of typical sessions.

IS EMDR RIGHT FOR YOU?

This type of treatment is for you if you want to...

DEEPEN: Perhaps you’ve had a sense that something profound has yet to change, but you’re not quite sure how to shift into deeper healing with your current therapist. Maybe you now cognitively understand your past, yet your body seems to hold on to it. Engaging in EMDR therapy can help connect your body and mind.

SAVE TIME: Perhaps you’ve been meaning to get into therapy for a while now, but your schedule has been so hectic and demanding that a weekly therapy appointment seems more overwhelming than supportive. Perhaps you travel a lot and rarely in town. All you need is to block off one day.

FEEL BETTER NOW: Perhaps you’re needing help right now, and you don’t want to spend months in the traditional weekly model of therapy treatment to feel better. Skip months of therapy and try an intensive, it can feel like getting  6 months of therapy in a matter of days.

FOCUS AND DO THE WORK: Perhaps you are someone who prefers to dive right in and work intensively, rather than put your toe in first. I dig it, let's get to work.

EFFECTIVENESS

The studies have spoken: EMDR is really really helpful. Initially developed in 1987 by Francine Shapiro, and over the past 30+ years, the evidenced-based treatment has continued to be studied and implemented across the world.

Research has shown EMDR therapy to be effective for multiple diagnoses including

EMDR  not only reduces emotional distress, but it can provide physical benefits as well. People who have tried EMDR have expressed experiencing less gastrointestinal distress, lower blood pressure, feelings of lightness in the body, and reduced muscle tension. While this might not happen for everyone, there's a high chance you'll feel pleasant sensations from the experience.
